Partnet Assists DOD EMALL in Meeting Defense Security Standards
June 9, 2009
SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Partnet--the industry expert in online marketplaces for government--today announced that the Defense Department's DOD EMALL, the government's largest online marketplace, with the support of their contract partners, has successfully completed the DOD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP). DOD EMALL has received an "Interim Authority to Operate" within a Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) computing center.
"Network and system security is a mission-critical requirement for the DOD," said Partnet CEO Don Brown. "Last year alone there were 18,000 reported data breaches at Federal agencies. Information assurance continues to be a top priority within the government and the DOD is on the leading-edge of this revolution. We applaud the DOD for their stringent security practices."
Replacing the previous DOD Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process (DITSCAP), DIACAP is an enterprise process for identifying, implementing, and managing the information assurance capabilities of DOD systems across their full life-cycle. The process requires a rigorous review of system architecture and operations encompassing a battery of security requirements to validate the continued security posture of defense systems, such as DOD EMALL.
"Meaningful security is much more than a firewall and a regular patching process--it's literally about how your code is developed; how your data is isolated and maintained; how the systems are integrated; and how support personnel enforce and preserve these investments," said Todd VanderVeen, Director of Federal Commerce Systems, Partnet. "DIACAP properly addresses these broader functional and operational concerns. As the contract partner to DOD EMALL, we provide support sustainment, maintenance, and operations. Support to the Warfighter is the mission of DOD EMALL and the systems that provide the products and services needed to fulfill their missions must be responsive and consistently available--security is an essential aspect to making these guarantees. Partnet is proud to be a contract partner working toward the successful transition of the DOD EMALL security standards to the DIACAP process. These proactive efforts are important to preserving the strong security that DOD EMALL has achieved."
Serving over 40,000 users across the armed forces, DOD EMALL offers a catalog of more than 50 million items with an annual sales volume approaching $1 billion.
