Going "Green" with Partnet SearchExec
January 13, 2009
Green Procurement is the purchase of environmentally-preferrable products and services in accordance with Federally-mandated "green" procurement preference programs--identified as the GPP Strategy. For certain products that are energy efficient, water conserving, or made from recovered/bio-based materials, Federal purchasers MUST buy the "green" alternative (subject to certain exceptions). The DOD goal is to achieve 100% compliance with mandatory Federal GPP programs in all acquisition transactions. This goal applies to all acquisitions--from major weapon systems to individual unit supply and service requisitions. The GPP Strategy provides guidance for achieving this goal.
Basically, it means rightly deciding to purchase cost-effective, mission-enabling, and environmentally-preferrable items. Environmentally-preferrable items are defined as products and services having miminal impact on human health and the environment compared to similar products or services.
Partnet's search engine software, Search Exec, enables the Department of Defense Electronic Mall (DOD EMALL) to rapidly identify and present "green" items to its customers. Products meeting DOD-approved environmental attributes are listed in the DOD EMALL catalog with an Environmental Attribute Code (ENAC).
In all, over 100 ENACs are provided to detail the GPP requirements of any given item. SearchExec makes these items easy to find by designating them with an ENAC icon. Customers can sort for "green" items by clicking on the ENAC icon.
This easy access makes "shopping green" on DOD EMALL quick and simple--leading to the best procurement decisions every time.
